Experiencing life during World War One brought a new dimension to a regular school day for children in St Albans.
All the youngsters at Watling View School took part in World War One Day and among the guests was the Mayor of St Albans, Cllr Geoff Harrison, who joined a workshop based on recipes from 1914 run by teacher Trudy Gray.
Among a wide variety of learning experiences were a ‘postcards from the front drill’ and fitness training, with support from students of St Columba’s College, sensory stories, preparing and planting a garden of remembrance and an old-tyme musical sing-song featuring some of the most popular wartime songs.
A service of remembrance looking back at the events of the First World War was held in the afternoon.
