Five determined women shed pounds to raise pounds when they took part in a sponsored weight loss programme.

The quintet - Liz Hizli, Emilie Griffin, Claire Bedwell, Monica Carrera and Pauline Barwell - who know each other from the Spotted Dog in Flamstead, managed to lose almost three and a half stone between them on a hypnotic weight loss programme incorporating a virtual gastric band (VGB).

They set about their challenge in June working with clinical hypnotherapist Lilian Whitehad and not only did the pounds fall off but they managed to raise nearly £400 for the Mount Vernon Cancer Centre Charitable Fund.

The women had four weekly sessions with Lilian. Claire, who is proprietor of the Spotted Dog and lost a stone in four weeks with the VGB, said: “Our weekly sessions with Lilian and a busy pub, with thanks to our lovely customers, has kept me fit and helped me shed pounds.’
