A FIVE-year jail sentence has been handed down to a man responsible for a burglary at a St Albans pub among a string of other thefts.

David McChesney, 31, was sentenced to five years at Luton Crown Court on Monday for a total of 13 burglaries including The Camp pub in St Albans in April 2008.

McChesney, who lives in Luton, was one of three men sentenced to a total of 12-and-a-half years for burglaries across Herts and Beds between April and June last year.

It followed an investigation called Operation Encore, a four-month-long probe between the Herts and Beds police forces into overnight house and pub burglaries. All three men had pleaded guilty earlier this month.
