FIVE fire appliances were called to a roof fire in Wheathampstead this afternoon (Monday).
Two semi-detached bungalows in Castle Rise caught alight just before 2.30pm but the occupants of both properties managed to escape without any injuries and the cause of the fire has been reported as accidental.
A team of fire fighters are currently dampening down the bungalow roofs.
Police closed the road at Castle Rise and Lower Luton Road. Though road restrictions are still present in the area, traffic is flowing again.
