TRAIN drivers union ASLEF has withdrawn its ballot for industrial action which had threatened First Capital Connect (FCC) passengers with chaos at Christmas.

As revealed in last week's Herts Advertiser, the union is recommending that its members accept a revised pay offer made by FCC last week and normal service on the Thameslink line is expected to be resumed as soon as possible.

Drivers had decided not to work overtime or on rest days in the dispute over the annual pay rise but FCC has now made an improved two-year offer with a pay increase in both years.

Services on the Thameslink line had been operating at up to half strength during the five-week-long dispute.
