THAMESLINK train services through St Albans, Harpenden and Radlett have been affected by the recent snowfall and sub zero temperatures.

Train operators First Capital Connect (FCC) said a power cut in the Farringdon area this morning (Monday) contributed to significant disruption caused by the extreme weather conditions and low temperatures which last night reached -13 degrees in some places.

A separate power cut at West Hampstead Service Delivery Centre severely affected FCC’s informative systems which meant all trains were shown as cancelled although that was not the case.

Staff were unable to update the Customer Information Screens at the stations and could not update it on the FCC website.

In addition, Network Rail did not de-ice the track following the weekend engineering works in central London which meant two services got stuck in the Farringdon and Blackfriars area which added to the delays and cancellations.

FCC has now been instructed by Network Rail to run a revised timetable for the remainder of today and tomorrow (Tuesday) which will consist of four trains an hour to and from Bedford, two serving the Wimbledon-Sutton loop and two running to and from Brighton.
