FIREFIGHTERS are tackling a hay stack fire on the outskirts of St Albans, the second in 12 hours.
A crew was alerted to the first fire on Highfield Lane at around midnight where the quickly brought it under control with the help of a farmer and his machinery. It is thought that this fire was started deliberately.
A second call came in at around 5.46am to the same area where a large amount of hay was reported to be ablaze.
Farm machinery is again being used to assist the firefighters.
A relief crew has now replaced the original team sent out when the call first came in.
