TWO people were rescued by firefighters after flames tore through their flat yesterday (Wednesday) evening.

The fire started in the property in Gorham Drive in Cottonmill, St Albans, just before 6pm. The two people, believed to be in their sixties, were trapped inside and firefighters led them to safety.

Two ambulances and two paramedic fast response cars were sent to the scene and the two people rescued were taken to Hemel Hempstead Hospital suffering from smoke inhalation.

A flat below sustained water damage in the incident.

The fire, which was under control by 6.30pm,

started accidentally.
