Firefighters were forced to fly into action earlier today (Monday) when a pigeon became entangled in wire netting in St Albans’ city centre.
The emergency service was called to the Town Hall at around 2pm to find the winged creature all in a flap as intrigued shoppers watched the rescue, from several metres below.
Those on the ground observed crews blocking off the thoroughfare and mounting a ladder to bring the animal to safety.
An RSPCA representative on the scene suggested that the bird may have been there most of the day and was likely to be suffering a broken wing.
Having been collected, the pigeon was taken away for further checks, to establish the full extent of any injuries.
