A KITTEN was rescued by firefighters on Tuesday after it became stuck up a tree on its first outing.

The moggy named Millie, which belongs to the landlady of the Holly Bush in Potters Crouch, Vanessa Williams, was stranded up a tall tree outside the pub for six hours before the RSPCA came to help and then called St Albans firefighters for assistance at around 1.30pm.

Vanessa said: “I lost another kitten six months ago and since getting Millie I haven’t wanted to let her out, but I eventually did yesterday morning for the first time but she ran straight up the tree.

“After about six hours I called the RSPCA who came round and kindly called the firefighters. She was getting more and more scared as time went on but they used a great big ladder to get her down and she was absolutely fine. The firefighters were ever so nice.”

Millie, who is a cream-colour, is now back in the pub – which has recently undergone a major refurbishment – and is none the worse for her ordeal but Vanessa said she was reluctant to allow her outside again and wouldn’t be letting her out of sight in the future. She joked: “I can tell she is going to be an absolute nightmare.”
