Firefighters were busy throughout yesterday evening and this morning tackling fires in and near St Albans (April 21).

Arsonists set alight a moped on Park View Close at about 11.20pm on April 20 - by the time St Albans firefighters got to the blaze only the frame was left standing.

It took no more than 15 minutes to put out the fire with backpack sprayers.

In a separate incident yesterday, the St Albans crew were called to a small bonfire on Griffiths Way in St Albans at about 5.20pm.

Hosereels were used to extinguish this blaze, which was also deliberately set alight.

This morning (April 21) there were another two fires, although they have not been labelled as deliberate or accidental.

Redbourn firefighters were sent out to deal with a small fire in the open on Luton Road - they used hosereels to extinguish it.

Crews from Markyate and Hemel Hempstead were called out to a car fire on the M1 but it was out on arrival.
