A SECONDARY school which was closed last week following a suspected arson attack has reopened this morning (Monday).

Pupils at Verulam School in Brampton Road, St Albans, were sent home on Tuesday after a fire engulfed a number of classrooms and the roof in the main building.

There were subsequent reports that the fire alarms failed to sound in the incident and though the school reopened on Wednesday, it closed again for the remainder of the week so that checks could be carried out.

There was also a smaller fire at the school on Monday last week.

Two teenagers have been charged with arson recklessly endangering lives - one in connection with both incidents and another in connection with Monday's fire.
