CHAMPIONS of the first St Albans Film Festival are casting for their next short movie ‘The Charity Man’ this Friday (12).
Ben Jacobs and James Callàs Ball, former Beaumont students, triumphed with their film ‘Gracious Awakenings’ at the March awards, winning the Judge’s Special Mention gong in the Best Short Film category.
The film-making pair are looking for actors to join the project, which will be filmed in the city centre, and are holding an audition this Friday from 10am to 4pm.
Director Ben said: “Since the St Albans Film Festival we’ve felt encouraged to continue making films and have been overwhelmed by the amount of positive responses to ‘Gracious Awakenings’. Following the success of our first film we are pleased to be able to open casting for our second project.”
“‘The Charity Man’ is a short black comedy focusing on the trials and tribulations of a charity high street ‘chugger’ and his battle to get people to sign-up for donations.”
He added James came up with the idea for the new short film whilst observing charity collectors in Glasgow: “He saw the humour in the public’s attempts to avoid confrontation with them and turned it into another brilliant comedy script.”
