PUT the TV control to one side over Christmas and get stuck into a family quiz which also raises money for Grove House.

The Green Ribbon Quiz, devised by Grove House supporters Pat and Derek Jeffries, consists of 60 questions and is now on sale priced at only �1.

That buys not only plenty of family entertainment during the festive season but also an opportunity to win a night's accommodation including dinner at the Noke Hotel in St Albans.

Last year the quiz raised an incredible �1,000 for the day hospice to help it continue with its valuable work.

There are also a host of other events and activities taking place over the festive period in aid of Grove House.

Sunday December 13 - Mayor's Carol Concert: An evening of traditional carols with Cllr Chris Oxley, Mayor of St Albans.

Beginning at 4pm outside the Alban Arena, followed by festive refreshments in the council offices. All proceeds to Grove House.

Monday December 14 - Grove House Carol Concert: Enjoy traditional carols and readings at Kingsbury Barn, St Michaels. Start 6.30pm. Festive refreshments provided. SOLD OUT.

Friday December 18 - Voix de Vivre Christmas Concert: A seasonal ceremony of carols, Bach and Britten at Dagnall Street Baptist Church 8pm.

Wednesday December 23 - Lea Singers Charity Christmas Concert in aid of Grove House: 7.45pm at Harpenden Public Halls, tickets �13, �11 concs, �5 under 16 to include refreshments and programmes, �1 off in advance, call 01582 761246.

From Saturday January 9 - Theatrical Make-Up Workshops: Local professional make-up artist Andrea Williams will be running a course of theatrical make-up lessons over five Saturdays.

The course will take place from 9.30-11.30am at The Courtyard Cafe, Hatfield Road, St Albans AL1 3RR. Total cost of course including materials and refreshments �175. All profits to Grove House.
