CALLOUS thieves stole an elderly man’s gold necklace from around his neck as he sat in his car in St Albans last Friday.

The man, in his 70s, was approached by two women as he sat in his car on Hatfield Road at around 9.30am.

They tapped on his window and one of the women asked for directions to the hospital. But as he gave her directions, the other woman reached through his window and snatched the chain from his neck.

They then made off towards Morrisons supermarket.

The stolen necklace has a distinctive gold rope chain with a medallion on it picturing Lord Krishna.

The thieves are described as white, of medium build and it is believed that both spoke with Eastern European accents. One was 35 years old and the other around 25. Both wore white headscarves. The older woman also had two distinctive gold teeth – one in the top of her mouth and one in the bottom.

PC Chris Chadwick said the thieves had taken advantage of the victim’s kind nature. He urged anyone who saw the two women approach the car or make off after the incident to contact the police on the non-emergency number 101 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
