A FAMILY-run transport business established over 40 years ago has won a prestigious industry award.

White's Coaches, based in Sandridge Road, St Albans, was named Minibus Operator of the Year at RouteOne Magazine's operator excellence awards.

The company was established by the late Roger White in the 1960s and specialised in special needs work, but his son Greg took over when he passed away seven years ago. Since then, Greg has extended the services to corporate clients as well as maintaining special needs contracts, including one with the county council.

Greg's mum Maureen continues to help him run the business, which employs around 25 members of staff and has a fleet of 15 vehicles.

The company was nominated six months ago after the magazine canvassed those within the industry.

Greg said he was very proud of the achievement and attributed it to a supportive family, including his wife and two young children, along with his dedicated staff.
