A FAMILY in Harpenden has welcomed their fifth generation to the fold with the birth of their youngest member.

Evie Brooke Taylor, who was born on October 23 and weighed 6lb 10oz, joins a line of women that began in 1921 when her great-great nana, Betty Medhurst, was born in Westcliff on Sea. Betty moved to Harpenden and in 1943 she married Bert Medhurst. They had twin girls and Sheila – Evie’s great nana – went on to marry Roger Rolt.

Roger and Sheila had Jacqui – Evie’s grandmother – who went on to marry Steve Hunt. Steve and Jackie had Kayleigh who is the proud mother of the family’s newest member.

The family will celebrate Evie’s arrival in a joint event in January when her great-great nana, Betty, turns 90.

Betty, who lives in Noke Shot, said she was very proud of her family and delighted to be a great-great nana because she had never imagined it would happen.

Jacqui said the arrival of Evie had been highly anticipated and they were all delighted she was finally there. She added: “We were very excited waiting for our first grandchild to be born and we are fortunate enough to be able to spend lots of time with her.

“We look forward to watching her grow up into a happy healthy little girl. She is so gorgeous and we are very proud grandparents.”
