VENETIAN explorer Francesco Da Mosto found himself on dry land last week when he ventured to St Albans for a book signing.

Architect, historian and BBC presenter Francesco visited Waterstone's in St Peter's Street to sign copies of the book accompanying his latest series, Francesco's Mediterranean Voyage.

His programme Francesco's Venice, through which he made his name, is currently being repeated on TV.

Fans queued to meet Francesco, who lives in Venice with his wife and three children. He is the son of a Venetian count and his family have been part of the city's history since as early as the fifth century.
