AN exhibition of proposals to expand Welwyn-Hatfield by 5,000 new homes, which would impinge on St Albans, is on display until 9pm tonight at the Oaklands Smallford Campus.

Welwyn-Hatfield Council agreed to put on the exhibition at the request of St Albans District Council because of the likely impact on areas like Smallford and Sleapshyde if the new houses are built.

Local people have been leafleted about the exhibition and a steady stream of visitors had been reported by mid-afternoon

St Albans planning portfolio holder, Cllr Chris Brazier, said: "Welwyn-Hatfield wasn't originally going to do it but we asked them to because it was going to affect our district.
