FOLLOWING their victory over St Albans School in the County Cup, St Columba’s College had another reason to celebrate when they hosted a visit from England international rugby player Manu Tuilagi before the end of term.
The Samoan-born rugby union player was at the King Harry Lane school for a photo-shoot with gum-shield sponsors Opro and posed with the school’s eager rugby team in their kit.
Manu, 21, who school staff said had a “smiling, gentle demeanour”, spent the day signing items for pupils and was mobbed at lunchtime by a multitude of fans.
Year 13 student Josh Pieterse said: “It was the best way to end a great term and an honour to meet an England player.”
Fellow pupil Matthew Crade said: “It was the best week of rugby I have ever had – winning the Under 18s County Cup and meeting Manu.”
