A LANDLORD who revamped a popular St Albans pub is moving on to pastures new and wants to thanks all his loyal locals.

27-year-old Sean Hughes, who owns the Verulam Arms on Lower Dagnell Street, is moving to London next month and has sold his pub, which he runs with help from his father William Hughes, to a new buyer.

Sean, whose family also owns The Boot pub in St Albans's Market Place, brought the pub in 2005 and, after a major makeover, he re-opened it in early 2006, quickly earning himself some new customers.

Sean said that there have been many highlights to his Verulam Arms career: "It was great fun to spruce the place up and introduce a new gastro pub-esque menu - we were even serving Australian crayfish at one point!"

He added: "I've met so many great people since being at the Verulam Arms and I want to say thank you to everyone who came in for a pint. I'd urge everyone to keep supporting the pub scene in St Albans; it's such a great part of this city.
