AN elderly woman is in a serious condition in hospital following a serious road traffic accident in Harpenden last night.

It happened at 7.25pm at the junction of the St Albans Road and Leyton Road and involved the woman pedestrian and the driver of a blue Peugeot 307 who was in her forties and also from the town.

The pedestrian was taken to Luton and Dunstable Hospital where her condition was described this morning as serious.

The exact circumstances of the accident are unknown and police are appealing for any witnesses to contact the crash investigation team on 01707 354027.
