Elderly woman has bank card stolen in Harpenden car park

POLICE have issued a warning after a bank card thief stole 750 from a woman in her 90s in Harpenden.

The theft took place in Sainsbury’s car park last Sunday (October 28), adding to a string of incidents across the county.

Similar crimes have also been reported in Berkhamsted, Rickmansworth, Bishop’s Stortford, Broxbourne, and Letchworth with elderly people being targeted in each instance.

In most reported cases the victim has been approached by a man or a couple in a car park. They tell the victim they have dropped 10.

The offender then helps the victim put the money in their purse, stealing their bank card at the same time.
