The elderly woman who was involved in an accident with a lorry in Jersey Farm this morning (Monday) has died as a result of her injuries, police have confirmed.

Bystanders had reported that although an air ambulance was called, the 80-year-old woman died at the scene.

Herts Police have now confirmed her death.

The accident happened as a lorry was exiting the service yard of Tesco Express in St Brelade’s Place in Jersey Farm shortly before 11am today. The store has since closed for the day.

At 5pm, Herts Police released a statement on the fatality.

It says that officers from the tri-force Road Policing Unit are appealing for witnesses and information following the fatal road traffic collision in Jersey Farm, which occurred at about 10.50am in Twyford Road.

While the circumstances of the collision are unclear, it appears that a Tesco delivery lorry was exiting the service road by the Tesco Express, when it collided with the 80 year old woman.

The statement added: “The air ambulance attended the scene but sadly the lady died as a result of the injuries she had suffered.”

Pc Shona Gillen, investigating, said: “We are appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time and who witnessed the collision, or who saw the lady prior to the incident, to contact us a soon as possible. We know there were people at the scene who left before we were able to speak to them. We are urging them to contact us as they may have vital information that could help our investigation.”
