AN ELDERLY man had to be treated for smoke inhalation after a fire broke out in a hedge in his back garden.

Firefighters from St Albans were called to the blaze at the rear of houses in Dell Rise, Park Street, at around 4pm on Saturday afternoon.

The flames were out within 20 minutes and the fire was recorded as accidental.

Later in the day, firefighters were also called to a small fire in woods at the junction of Green Lane and Francis Avenue in St Albans.
