A series of dawn drug raids have taken place in St Albans this week.

Eight addresses were searched between Monday (5) and Friday (9) as part of Herts Police’s ‘Operation Scorpion’, devised to target suspected drug suppliers in the area.

Two people were arrested, one woman was given a warning, another woman a caution, and a man was fined during the raids.

Cannabis was discovered at a property in Tavistock Avenue on Monday, after five officers searched the property. An 18 year old woman was given a warning.

The same morning, a quantity of cash was seized from a home in Artisan Crescent.

Six officers raided homes in Pemberton Close and Wilshere Close on Tuesday where drug paraphernalia was seized.

Cocaine was seized and a 24 year old woman cautioned in Hatfield Road on Wednesday.

A property in Lawrence Road was also searched on Wednesday. Police seized cannabis and a quantity of cash and arrested 18 year old man.

On Thursday a 39 year old man was fined £80 in St Anne’s Road for possession of cannabis.

A search was also carried out on Thursday at a property in Spruce Way, where a 19 year old was arrested on suspicion of possession of drugs with intent to supply.

Sergeant Scott Curran who lead ‘Operation Scorpion’, said: “Through our own investigations and information from the public, we can work together to keep St Albans safe and I would therefore strongly encourage people to always report suspicious activity to us should they come across it.”

Operation Scorpion targets burglars, robbers and those involved in drug and vehicle related crime. Activity is focused on those criminals causing the most harm to our communities.

The 18 year old who was arrested in Lawrence Road was released on bail and is due to return to Hatfield Remand Court on October 15.

The 19 year old man arrested at Spruce Way was released on police bail and is due to return to Hatfield Remand Court on December 4.
