A MOBILE classroom could be seen suspended above part of St Albans on Tuesday morning.

Batchwood School in Townsend Drive had the unit removed to make way for a vegetable garden for the students to use.

The mobile unit consisting of five rooms with a kitchen and toilet was formerly used as teaching space for young offenders but they have now relocated to another site close by.

The school no longer needed or wanted the unit due to the expensive maintenance it would involve and the space it took up, so it was lifted by a crane and taken away on a low loader lorry this week.

As well as growing vegetables on its footprint, the school is also hoping to have chickens there in the future.
