ELATION followed as students at St Albans Girls’ School tore open the fateful brown envelopes which revealed their GCSE results earlier on today.

Headteacher Margaret Chapman said she was “very proud” with the pupils’ performance this year that will enable many of them to enter post-16 education.

She went on: “Particular thanks must go to the dedication of teachers, parents and carers who contributed so well to supporting our students achieving their goals.”

One student, Kathryn Wormald, who was over the moon with her results also commented: “I am completely dazed, I have spent five years looking at my targets thinking how would I get them and now I have all A*s.”
