A NEW sculpture has been unveiled at a St Albans secondary school to celebrate it being awarded humanities specialist school status.

Year eight students at Townsend School have been working with local artist and sculptress Frankie Felstead to help plan and construct the artwork, which has been situated at the front of the school.

Using skills they have learnt as part of the curriculum, the students have been making pieces from aluminium wire and various other materials to form the structure.

This project will lead on to many more including creating sculptures for the new Eco Garden, which was also opened on Friday.

The garden area has been designed with the help of Ayletts Garden Centre to raise awareness of the importance of growing your own vegetables and recycling. Some of the food grown will be used in food technology lessons.
