THE death of a student's grandmother after struggling with dementia convinced a party of students from a St Albans school to raise money for the local Alzheimer's Society.
Year 13 students at Loreto College studying for a NVQ in Business Administration recently presented the society with a cheque for £1,553.
As part of their NVQ course, the students were challenged to carry out a small business project to raise funds for a charity which they did by holding various events such as bag packing in local stores and a Christmas sale at the Town Hall.
The girls also visited Vesta Lodge in St Albans and met people suffering with dementia. Project leader Anny Levett said: “It’s been a very rewarding experience and we feel as though we have given something back to our community.”
Erika Alridge from the Alzheimer’s Society added: “We are extremely grateful to the students and would like to thank them for choosing to work with our charity. The funds will be used to help maintain local services for people with dementia and their carers.”
