Singing and signing came together in the city centre recently when two St Albans schools joined forces to show what they had created together.

Heathlands School for Deaf Children and Garden Fields JMI, both in St Albans, worked together as an inclusion choir to make a pop video for charity Sign Health.

Every year the charity asks people to sign up to a project called Sign2Sing and to learn a signed song in order to raise essential funds to help vulnerable deaf children and adults.

The two schools worked together on the song entitled Reach Out Your Hand which will be the anthem of the Sign2Sing project from Monday, February 1, until Sunday, February 7, next year.

The children enjoyed making the video so much that the Garden Fields children joined Heathlands at its annual sing/song in the Maltings shopping centre.

Sarah Brinsden, a teacher of the deaf at Heathlands School said “Thank you to all of the passers-by who shared in the fun. If you enjoyed it then please take part in the Sign2Sing project in February.”
