Herts county council’s cabinet will today decide on whether to expand St Peter’s School in St Albans.
There has been a proposal for 30 extra places at the Cottonmill Lane school, doubling its capacity and helping address a severe shortage of local places in the area, which has been referred to as a ‘black hole’ of school places.
The council’s cabinet member for education Terry Douris said: “We are committed to making sure that every child in Hertfordshire has a place at one of our great schools so they can reach their full potential. That means ensuring the right number of school places in the best locations. We will continue to invest money to ensure that where the county’s population grows we build the appropriate infrastructure.”
Since 2010, over £250m has been approved to provide 19,000 additional permanent and temporary primary and secondary school places.
