St Albans pupils take control of school

THE ORDER of things were a little different last Friday at a school in St Albans, when pupils took over for the day.
Staff and pupils at Francis Bacon took part in their second Takeover Day – in which the roles of the adults are taken on by the students at the school. The day gives everyone the chance to see how the other half lives. Students get to see the reality of teaching and teachers get to see the classroom environment from a pupil’s point of view.
Pupils took over the canteen – preparing and serving meals to students – and they delivered a variety of lessons. They also assisted the senior management and learning support teams.
Bethany Nicholson, a Year 10 student, said: “Takeover Day helps you see how much work really goes into teaching – teachers never stop. I never realised how much work the senior managers do.”
