St Albans pupils bring books to life

Book characters came to life at the end of a week devoted to story-telling at a St Albans primary school.
Both children and staff at Garden Fields JMI dressed up to for World Book Day which was the climax of a week with numerous book events laid on for the youngsters.
There were visits from authors Hilary Greatorex and Sian Patterson as well as illustrator Stu McLellan together with sit and read sessions, a book fair and a story sleepover for Early Years children where they were read bedtime stories.
Nearly the whole school dressed up for World Book Day with characters from Harry Potter, The Hunger Games and Fungus the Bogeyman. Staff showed the way by dressing up as the Where’s Wally team.
Deputy head Michelle Cole said: “Story-telling week is a wonderful opportunity to enthuse and inspire the children about reading and the wonder of words! The children loved taking part in lots of fun activities such as story-telling, illustrator and author visits, book swaps and dressing up for World Book Day.”
