A nursery school in St Albans will be holding a picnic to celebrate its ‘outstanding’ Ofsted report.

Acorns Nursery at Oaklands College in Hatfield Road was praised by Ofsted inspectors for its “exceptional” partnership with parents and the progress children make in their learning and development, in an inspection on Friday, May 26.

Staff and parents will be celebrating the report with a picnic and a charity ‘Big Toddle’ sponsored walk, which raises money for Barnado’s.

Manager Wendy Taylor said: “We have an excellent team here and everyone contributed to the achievement.

“Both children and staff are very happy and fulfilled at Acorns and we also have very supportive parents.

“The inspector we had was really lovely. She seemed to understand what we are trying to achieve. It felt more like a professional discussion and she put the staff at ease.

“We are just so excited as it is such a big achievement.”

The nursery, which received a ‘good’ rating in its previous inspection, was given an ‘outstanding’ rating in all areas. To improve further, inspectors said the nursery could enhance even further the opportunities for the youngest children to use technology.
