St Albans MP Anne Main visited a secondary school and encouraged girls to pursue a political career as part of a national annual festival.
Mrs Main went to St Albans girls school as part of UK Parliment Week Campaign, which takes places from November 13 to 19 and aims to engage people from across the UK with the activities of Westminster.
Year 12 politics student and former MYP candidate, Lilian Ahmed, asked Anne: “What it was like to be a woman working in Parliament at the present time?”
She answered that although more women have become MPs since Anne started in 2005, it is important to encourage girls into politics, pointing out the day of Mrs Main’s visit Sarah Clarke was announced as the first woman Black Rod in 669 years.
The Black Rod maintains order within the House of Lords and its precincts.
