Several St Albans schools have been praised for improving their Ofsted results.

Herts county council (HCC) recently revealed 91 per cent of the county’s schools are rated good or outstanding.

High Beeches Primary School in Harpenden went from good to outstanding rating in March.

Headteacher Sara Lawrence said: “The school community is extremely delighted and proud our recent Ofsted judgement moved the school from good to outstanding.

“It has been a truly exceptional team effort and an accolade much deserved by all. The children of High Beeches are a joy to teach and leave the school as very well-rounded young people ready to enjoy all life’s adventures.”

High Beeches’ acting deputy head Peter Edney said: “To a large extent, it’s down to the children.

“The Ofsted inspectors spent a long time with the children who were able to talk about their learning and their life in school and what they contribute.

“We try and make sure we are teaching things by topic, and cover a number of topics, so we may do English and write about a certain part of history or computing.

“So there is a lot of cross-curricular learning, which I think gives the children a kind of broader education.

“There is still things we can always do and we always say about our teaching ‘we are all learning’ and we are all trying to improve and get better.”

The other schools in the St Albans district which improved their results were St Adrian’s Roman Catholic Primary School, which went from satisfactory to good, and Links Academy, which did the same.

Cabinet Member for Education, Terry Douris, said: “Hertfordshire has some of the best education facilities in the UK, so this figure is an excellent testament to the hard work of school leaders, teachers and governing bodies.

“We will continue to work with the county’s schools to maintain and improve on these fantastic results.”

“Ensuring young people throughout the county get the best possible start in life is of paramount importance to the council.

“The school improvement support available from Herts for Learning, the UK’s largest schools’ company, is second to none.”
