Beaumont pupils to sing at London’s 2012 Cultural Olympiad
PUPILS at a St Albans school are on song to perform in London’s 2012 Cultural Olympiad.
Three Beaumont School pupils have accepted places in a youth choir that will feature in the Youth Music Voices Ensemble.
The school’s music department is celebrating the success of talented students Emily Almond, Emma Doherty, Anna Fordham and Hannah Perryman, all of whom were offered places in the ensemble. The ensemble is one of the initiatives within the ‘music’ stream of the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad. Emily, Hannah and Emma recently accepted the offer.
Competing against more than 2,000 young singers aged 16-21 all four girls, who have just completed their GCSEs, succeeded in securing places in the choir that comprises 120 of the most talented young singers drawn from all areas of the UK.
It will give them the opportunity to join in and celebrate the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games through singing.
The singers were put forward for the project by head of music at Beaumont, Hanh Doan, who said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for these students to do something completely different to the choral singing that they already do to a very high standard. I am delighted for them.”
They took part in workshops and auditions and were eventually selected to join the choir of just 120 against stiff competition.
Emily, Hannah and Emma described their selection as a really great opportunity and said they were really looking forward to being involved in such an exciting venture.
Youth Music Voices is part of the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad, a programme that runs for four years from the end of the Beijing Games in 2008 to the end of the Olympic and Paralympic Games in London in 2012. It is a celebration of arts, film and media taking place alongside the Olympics.
