A CATHOLIC school has been busy celebrating its Golden Jubilee with pupils past and present.

St Adrian’s in St Albans held a special open day earlier this month when a host of memorabilia was on display including historic photographs and old uniforms while Year 6 students acted as tour guides around the school.

The main hall had displays showing themes or events from the 1960s through to the present day which were made by the children and among the guests were eight former pupils from the very first class at the school.

More than 550 people turned out for the school’s jubilee mass the following week which was celebrated by the Most Rev Vincent Nichols, Archbishop of Westminster. Other dignitaries in attendance included St Albans Mayor Cllr Maxine Crawley.

The service was followed by a reception in a marquee which included a buffet and saw 50 balloons released to mark the occasion.

School governor Martina Doyle said: “It was a great community day.”
