Students from High Beeches Primary School have succeeded in winning first place in a regional cheerleading competition.
The cheer team from the Harpenden school recently competed in the Saracen Schools’ Cheerleading Competition and took home the first prize in the Junior Primary category.
The team, which is made up of around 20 pupils ranging from Years 3 to 6, put on a performance involving dance, gymnastics and a three-tier pyramid – the culmination of an autumn term of hard work.
The competition was run by the Saracens Sport Foundations through the School of Cheer programme which operates throughout Hertfordshire and North London, aiming to provide young people in the area with some high quality dance training.
The foundation’s community dance officer, Jess Hall, said it was overwhelming to see such a big turn out from schools and parents to the event.
She added: “The standard was the highest I have seen yet and it was a pleasure to see the smiles on everyone’s faces, both performers and audience.”
