Final preparations are underway at a village primary school where pupils are hoping to hit the right note when they appear at the Royal Albert Hall at a gala this Sunday.

Twenty pupils from Shenley Primary School, who have been working hard learning their songs, will be travelling to London to join thousands of schoolchildren from across the county taking part in the Hertfordshire Schools’ Gala.

The theme of the concert is Fable and Fantasy and the children will be singing a diverse programme ranging from songs from Phantom of the Opera to a new commission by UK musician and composer, Richard Sisson, based on The Wicked Lady, the name given to highwaywoman Lady Katherine Ferrars who lived in Markyate.

Children’s illustrator James Mayhew will bring an extra dimension to the concert by creating live illustrations that grow in time to the music.

Performances are at 1.45pm and 7.45pm and tickets costing between £12.50 and £31 are available from the Royal Albert Hall box office on 0207 589 8212 or the website.
