A boy who has battled with illness for most of his life has secured a bronze medal at the British Transplant Games.
Charles Obadiaru, 14, of Shenley, represented Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) in the games this week, winning bronze in the 50m backstroke race.
Charles, a pupil at Beaumont School, has been a patient at GOSH since the age of two, receiving treatment for prune belly syndrome with chronic renal failure.
He had a kidney transplant in 2007 and represented GOSH with the renal team at the games. His mum Delphine said: “It’s wonderful to see Charles enjoying sport so much and we’re so proud of him!”
The event saw GOSH compete against other hospitals in swimming, football, badminton and table tennis. Team managers Suzanne Collin and Suzanne Bradley said they were delighted that Charles had been a part of the GOSH renal team.
