Sandringham School headteacher Alan Gray has been awarded Headteacher of the Year for “leading his school to greatness”.

Gray was one of the winners at the 2017 Tes School Awards, run by digital education company Tes.

The judges said: “Alan Gray is an exceptional headteacher. He has led his own school to greatness and has found time to support other schools both locally and internationally. His exciting can-do approach to educational achievement is an inspiration.”

During Mr Gray’s time at Sandringham, the school was the first to make contact with British astronaut Tim Peake at the International Space Station.

He has also managed to keep the school among the top 50 nonselective mixed comprehensives in the country, while also managing to help train teachers at other schools.

Other awards given out by Tes include English teacher of the year, maths teacher of the year, and creative school of the year.
