St Albans City footballers have pitched up to local primary schools to speak with hundreds of youngsters and encourage them to become more active.
Midfielder Matt Taylor and defender James Kaloczi, both of whom play for the Saints’ first team, last week visited several schools including Cunningham Hill Junior, Cell Barnes Lane, to discuss the importance of sports and healthy eating.
Club PR and marketing manager Tom Norman said pupils asked Matt and James, who live in St Albans and attended school in the district when younger, “lots of searching questions”.
Matt progressed from the St Albans City Youth Under 18s and won county cups with City Youth and Harvesters before joining the club, while James has also played for the City Youth and reserve teams as well as Potters Bar Town and was previously with Harvesters.
The head of Skyswood Primary and the junior district schools’ football, Bob Bridle, helped the Saints establish links with local schools.
The visits have been such a success that players intend visiting more schools.
