The winners of the Herts Advertiser’s Kate Middleton dress design competition are revealed.

AHEAD of last week’s marriage of Prince William and Kate Middleton, budding designers in the district were asked to come up with a wedding dress fit for a princess.

Entries flooded into the Herts Advertiser and the winners of the competition – which included categories for both primary and secondary age pupils – have been decided.

We can announce that the winning design in the primary school category goes to Natalie Ornstin, nine, from Fleetville School in St Albans. Her design caught the judges eye due to its exceptional detail and classical feel.

A special mention in the category also goes to Francesca Diana, eight, from Wheatfields School and 24th St Albans Brownies, due to her pretty design and use of colour.

The crown in the secondary school category has been awarded to Isobel Barlow, 14, from Sir John Lawes School in Harpenden, whose stunning design caught the judges eye due to it’s detail, classic style and tasteful use of embroidery and colour. It was felt that it would have suited Kate Middleton perfectly.

A special mention in the category also goes to Laura Radgman from Sir John Lawes School in Harpenden who impressed the judges with the enormous effort and thought that had been put into her design. Fabrics were incorporated and complemented the hand-drawn design, and it was felt that the use of the Union Jack and royal crest emblems reflected the spirit of the nation in the run up to the big day.

The two winning designs will be printed in next week’s edition of the Herts Advertiser.

*There is no cash alternative. The prize is not transferable. The winners may be asked to take part in publicity relating to the prize. The editor’s decision is final. No correspondence will be entered into with any entrants.*
