Scientist and television presenter Professor Lord Robert Winston visited St Albans pupils to mark the culmination of British Science Week.
Verulam School hosted Lord Winston on Thursday, March 22, following a week of STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) based activities and talks from STEM ambassadors from local companies including Aecom and Roche.
Lord Winston gave a talk to Sixth Form pupils and linked science to the humanities as well as explaining his position on stem cell research. Year 7 and 8 pupils showed Lord Winston their science projects and he gave them certificates and awarded prizes to the two boys with the best projects.
Science teacher Lee Knowles said: “The visit was a tremendous event for the staff and pupils of the school. Many students have been touched by his words. One of his key mantras is to inspire young people whether or not they study sciences. This, he truly did!
