Schoolchildren designed, built, tested and flew model gliders as part of a national competition in London Colney.
Pupils from 22 primary schools gathered at the de Havilland Aircraft Museum for the regional finals of The Primary Schools Glider Challenge.
Model gliders which flew the furthest were not only awarded a trophy, but also went through to the next round to be in with a chance of winning prizes worth £500, £200, and £100.
The grand final took place at the RAF Museum Cosford on June 27.
One of the regional winners was a Year 4 team from St Matthews’s CE Primary School in Enfield.
Headteacher Louise Whitaker said: “We all really enjoyed our visit to the museum, it has a lot of history and its aircraft on display makes it very interesting and stimulating for the children.”
The competition is part of the schools’ STEM curriculum.
