A PARALYMPIAN shared the secrets of his success with pupils at a Park Street school last week.

Swimmer Giles Long was at Park Street Primary School to present a prize to the winner of the Herts is Ready for Winners competition which had been run with Herts Catering.

Year 1 pupil, Sebastion Ferdinand, scooped the top prize and was presented with a bag of Olympic goodies which included an Olympic swimming towel and a framed certificate. He and his family will also enjoy a day at the Paralympics, including travel expenses.

Giles led an assembly at the school, telling youngsters how he first broke into swimming when he was seven years old.

He also told them how important a healthy diet was for his training and success and relived the moment he won a gold medal at the Sydney Games.

The two-week competition invited children to try a school lunch themed on a different country – those who tried all nine on offer were then entered into the prize draw.
