Excellent Key Stage 2 results won two St Albans primary schools a pupil premium award and £1,000.

Nine schools in the county including Abbey Primary and SS Alban and Stephen Junior, both in St Albans, were congratulated by Schools Minister David Laws for their achievement.

The awards followed the publication of Key Stage 2 results which showed that they had made or continued to make impressive improvements in the attainment of their disadvantaged pupils.

Emma Fenn, head of Abbey Primary, said: “All the staff at the Abbey school are delighted to have been nominated for this award, which is linked to our very high SATs results.

“I am especially pleased as it particularly recognises our achievements in preparing less advantaged children for secondary school. The Abbey school is committed to ensuring that all our pupils, no matter what the family circumstances, have the same access to a first-class primary education, to provide them with a good foundation to go on and be successful in their secondary education and in life.”
