A school in Markyate held a sponsored fun run to raise money for Flamstead’s church roof fund.
All the children at Beechwood Park School, from the youngest Woodlands Nursery pupils to the oldest in Year 8, took part in the run and raised £10,000 for Friends of St Leonard’s.
The pupils and staff ran 5km through wheat fields and along country lanes from the school to Flamstead village, where they were met by a reception committee from St Leonard’s Church. Pupils were in costume for the run, with some dressed as bananas, riding unicorns and one dressed as Harry Potter.
Headmaster Edward Balfour met the runners at the church, and together they presented the cheque to Rev Stephen Tudway on behalf of the school’s parents’ association.
The money was raised through a year of fundraising activity including quiz nights, family photo shoots, the Christmas Fayre and the Summer Ball.
